Berry Bourbon Gluten Free French Toast

If there is one breakfast item that I would never pick off a restaurant menu it would be French toast.  Typically, I go for the veggie omelet or the occasional steel cut oats with fresh fruit.  Not in a million years would you ever, EVER catch me ordering French toast.  

First, I never really ate it when I was younger so eating it as an adult just seemed strange or somehow “immature” to me – kinda like eating ice cream for breakfast.  Second, finding gluten free French toast on the menu where I live is just about as impossible as it gets.  And third, eggs hold a really special place in my heart like, the bigger the omelet the better….just give me eggs all day every day. 

SO, when my husband suggested that was he going to whip up some gluten free French toast this past weekend I found it very surprising when I heard myself say I’LL TRY SOME.  I swear he looked at me like I had three heads, concerned that his otherwise egg loving wife had been kidnapped.  

While I also sharing in the same concerns, satisfying this odd craving seemed like a great idea especially since I had bourbon maple syrup and fresh fruit that I knew would make the perfect topping.

I wasn’t wrong.

Berry Bourbon Gluten Free and Dairy Free French Toast!

To say that this gluten free and dairy free French toast turned out delicious wouldn’t be doing it justice.  It was BEYOND delicious – in fact, it was bordering on flippin’ incredible. 

With just the simple addition of fresh fruit and the smallest drizzle ever of bourbon maple syrup, this French toast was taken to the next level.

Berry Bourbon Gluten Free and Dairy Free French Toast!

The best part is that it wasn’t too heavy or too sweet.  Since we used Udi’s Whole Grain Bread, it was hearty and filling but definitely not so filling that you felt like a glutton after inhaling an entire plate (which, by the way, I did).  

Berry Bourbon Gluten Free French Toast




  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon 
  • 1/2 cup pulp-free orange juice 
  • 4 pieces gluten free bread, like Udi’s 
  • 1 cup fresh berries
  • Bourbon Barrel Aged Maple Syrup, to taste


  1. Whisk eggs, vanilla, cinnamon and orange juice together in a bowl.  
  2. Dip bread in mixture making sure to coat each side. 
  3. Place on a hot, greased griddle or pan and brown and then turn over to brown other side. 
  4. Top with fresh berries and drizzle with bourbon syrup.
