How to Celebrate Small Victories and Why It Matters

On our health and fitness journeys, it easy to get caught up in the big goals.  PR this race, run this distance, lift bigger and heavy weights.  While having SMART (specific, measurable, attainable, relevant and time-bound) are key, we sometimes lose hope along the way when even those goals don’t seem to be met.

Even though it might feel that way, that might not really be the case.  When we become SO focused on the bigger goals, the smaller little wins get lost.  It’s important, however, to celebrate those smaller wins so that you can stay focused and positive while reaching the larger goal.

How to celebrate small victories and why it matters

Write it down.

Maybe you skipped soda that day or took a walk at lunch instead of staying at your desk.  Write it down.  Praise yourself for doing so with a little note that says “HEY, I did this today and I’m pretty darn proud”.

Finding a fun little journal to keep these little wins in is also key and will make you want to document them.

Treat yourself.

They say rewarding yourself with food isn’t always the best idea but if you’ve worked your butt off and want a darn cookie then I say, eat a darn cookie.  Finding healthier versions of otherwise unhealthy treats is key when doing so.  If you don’t want to make your own then finding something like the ones pictured below that are satisfying but allergy friendly, gluten, peanut and guilt free is a great option.

You can also go the non-food route and take 10 minutes to pamper yourself with a beauty mask.  You deserve it! 😉

Or you could always treat yourself with something new and go the shopping spree route. Don’t limit yourself to retail giants, choose a stylish gift from small boutiques around the globe with a Shoptiques Gift Card.

Make it an occasion.

Why not invite friends over and turn your small win into an occasion.  Celebrate by breaking out fun platters and even sparkly candles like the ones pictured above. Or maybe recognize a friend that has helped and supported your journey by gifting them with something small like friendship bracelet.
