How to Channel Your Inner Athlete and Get Ready for the Winter Games
Just this past fall, I was up in Lake Placid which hosted the Winter Games back in 1980 and is still home to a training center for competing athletes.
I happened to be out to dinner there at one of my fav little restaurants only to see 4 men from the US bobsled team walk in and casually sit down at the bar. I was immediately intrigued, mostly because I was curious about their fueling habits. What would they choose to eat? Would they have a drink? I did my best to be inconspicuous but I’m pretty sure they felt me staring at them from the corner of my eye.
To be honest, I can’t remember exactly what they ordered but I do remember thinking “don’t deny yourself the yumminess, you train really hard”. As I placed my order, I was just as much talking to them in my head as I was to myself 😉
As someone who is active and even by some standards athletic, I always am inspired when I watch the Winter Games let alone see athletes of such stature in person. To say I was in awe is an understatement, to say I was gawking might be more accurate. Regardless, the Winter Games hold a special place in my heart – watching the best of the best ski, skate and sled channels my inner athlete, not just in the way I train but the steps I take to keep myself happy and healthy.

Not that I’m a professional athlete but if I was, I’d probably want a snack or two after all my hard work. Of course, reaching for just any old snack won’t do but something like healthy Popchips, snackable Peanut Butter Nutter Puffs would probably do the trick. Obviously, an important part of enjoy the Winter Games is being able to stay connected wherever you go. Many of us will do this by listening or streaming the games during train commutes or, like me, just trying to listen without screaming children interrupting.
