Spiced CocoaVia® Recovery Smoothie + Giveaway!

 It’s no secret that I love chocolate, like really LOVE it and not the milk chocolate kind more like so dark that it almost tastes too bitter kind.  I actually eat it everyday, no joke.  I have made mention before that I enjoy a piece of dark chocolate after every meal and it’s true! Usually the 85% kinda dark….I let all of it’s deliciousness just melt on my tongue and savor the slightly sweet, bitter flavor. 

I also use cocoa powder in my smoothies but it isn’t just because I’m a chocoholic.  Sure, it tastes delicious but it also serves as a recovery aid.  This isn’t because of the chocolate per say but because of the cocoa flavanols that it contains which are known to improve circulation.  

Now I am no scientist (or dietician or doctor) but CocoaVia®, who recently sent me some of their powdered cocoa stick packs, does a pretty good job of explaining it on their website via this infographic: 


CocoaVia Recovery Smoothie Benefits

 CocoaVia®  specifically makes powdered supplements and capsules which contain the highest concentration of cocoa flavanols available in a supplement today.  Their new formulation has eliminated such things as sodium and soy in an effort to simplify their ingredient list.  

Aside from the capsules, CocoaVia®  offers Unsweetened Dark Chocolate stick packs as well as Sweetened Dark Chocolate and a Cran-Raspberry flavor.


I was sent all three to try out but since the sweetened versions are made with sucralose (which I don’t eat), I tested out the Unsweetened Dark Chocolate in a recovery smoothie and was pleasantly pleased! 

It made my smoothie taste just that much more like chocolate which I can’t argue with.  I also love how convenient the stick packs are as opposed to the giant bag of cocoa powder I normally scoop from which inevitably ends up all over the counter!

I also added in a few other ingredients known to reduce inflammation and assist with recovery to really get some bang for my buck.  The combo of the cocoa, turmeric, cinnamon, ginger and juicy blueberries really help to pack an antioxidant punch and assist in recovery!

 Spiced CocoaVia® Recovery Smoothie Recipe: 


  • 1 cup of unsweetened vanilla almond milk 
  • 1/2 cup of frozen blueberries
  • 1 scoop vegan chocolate protein powder
  • 1 packet of CocoaVia Unsweetened Dark Chocolate 
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • Cinnamon and ginger powder, to taste 
  • Cacao nibs, bee pollen and goji berries for topping (optional)


  1. Add all ingredients except toppings into a blender and blend until smooth. 
  2. Pour into large glass and add cacao nibs, bee pollen and goji berries on top.
  3. Enjoy! :)
