DVRT Warrior Workout


Breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer among women in the United States with 1 in 8 women developing invasive cancer over the course of her lifetime.  Those harsh statistics are the reason that October is dedicated to breast cancer awareness which aims to both raise funds for breast cancer research, detection and prevention.

Statistics like that also mean that breast cancer probably hits home for most of us, myself included.  Both of my aunts were diagnosed with breast cancer before they were thirty and though they both battled a tough road over the course of years, they are now thankfully celebrating life as survivors.  

It also hits home for DVRT Ultimate Sandbag creator, Josh Henkin.  In fact, the reason that the sandbags exist in pink is not to look pretty or as an attempt to be more appealing to women, it is actually a tribute to his step-mother who was diagnosed with breast cancer.  

Though she was only given 6 months to live, she fought like a warrior and lived for 7 years after her initial diagnosis.  During that period, she dedicated her time to educating and spreading awareness about breast cancer.  Josh Henkin has honored her work and legacy with the pink sandbag. 

Reading Josh’s story on the DVRT blog was moving but hearing it in person at the DVRT Master Trainer’s Summit this past weekend was incredibly touching and really struck a chord.  It also inspired me to put this workout together as a tribute to breast cancer warriors everywhere using my pink power bag.
