ENERGYbits Review & Giveaway! {Ended}

ENERGYbits Review & Giveaway via

 Recently, I connected with ENERGYbits on Twitter and after chatting a bit about training for my upcoming half marathon, they were gracious enough to offer to send me a sample to try.  Heck yeah! I was pretty excited about it because there has been a lot of hype about ENERGYbits and I wanted to know what I was missing out on.

ENERGYbits Review & Giveaway

So what exactly are ENERGYbits?

ENERGYbits are 100% natural organic green algae tabs that are rich in antioxidants and protein, which makes them a food not a supplement.  Since they are made from just one ingredient, they are naturally free of sugar, caffeine, chemicals, gluten, soy and all that yucky stuff that can cause stomach distress.   One tab has only one calorie but the recommended serving is 30 tabs which provide a whopping 64% of protein! Here is the nutrition facts per serving…it’s pretty impressive for algae in my opinion.  Who knew?

How/when to use them:

Other than the nutrition benefits, ENERGYbits are also meant to help with sports performance, provide a boost of energy (hence the name), crank up your endurance, reduce inflammation and be a healthy  protein snack from when you’re hangry (aka hungry & angry- I am ALL the time).  It is recommended that you take 30 bits at least 10-15 minutes before working out for optimal use.  They also recommend you NOT chew them, as most people do not enjoy the taste.  They are green and they smell green so it is no surprise that they taste green.

My experience:

I first tried the ENERGYbits before an early Saturday morning 6 mile run.  I took the recommended 30 tabs and set off.  Since I didn’t know what to expect, I also packed a small handful of bits with me to see what would happen if I chewed a few while running if I needed them for an extra boost.  I definitely felt a spurt of energy and my first several miles were great and I was able to maintain a pretty good pace without feeling too tired.

 Just for fun, I decided to chew a few a little bit after the fourth mile to see what would happen.   The taste did not bother me at all, but I should have known better than to chew pure algae.  Apparently, I was sporting a pretty prominent green ring around my mouth which I was completely unaware of until I got home. My husband immediately asked me if I had drank the local swamp water.  Lesson learned…DO NOT chew ENERGYbits!

The second time I tried them out was before a pretty intense total body bootcamp style workout that included a 1 mile run to start.  I took them again as directed and had a pretty successful workout.

The bits not only powered me though the entire workout but also gave me the energy I needed following the workout to get some much needed housework done.  I didn’t even end up having my normal cup of coffee that morning and I was still able to function with enough energy to get me through beyond what I needed to do.  I can’t exactly say that I ever felt a burst of energy but the fatigue I normally feel wasn’t present.  I didn’t experience any crash afterward either, which was nice.

My overall thoughts:

 Pros: They are a trusted source of energy that are 100% real food.  You don’t have to worry about putting any crap into your body and the tabs are easily digestible.  If you’re trying to perform, you want to feed your body, right? Other products that claim to boost energy and enhance performance contain nasty chemicals that only do long term damage to your body.  I personally refuse to eat anything with sucralose in it…can you say cancer? Algae has antioxidants. Antioxidants are said to prevent cancer.  BOOM! Want to compare ENERGYbits to other products on the market that make similar claims? Here is a chart:

Cons: 30 pills is a lot to swallow, literally.  I personally don’t have a problem with taking vitamins but if you have a hard time with it, these may not be for you. Also, they aren’t cheap.  One bag will run you $115.00 for 1000 tabs.

Fortunately, they have an awesome ambassador program and if you connect with one for a promo code you can score a pretty hefty discount.  They are also awesome about sending out samples to anyone who wants to try ENERGYbits before you invest in their product.  I have honestly never had a more pleasant and enjoyable interaction with a company before.  They truly believe in their product and care about their customers, which I think is  a huge bonus.

 ENERGYbits also hosts a weekly Health and Fitness Twitter Chat on Tuesday at 8pm using #PoweredByBits.  If you are on Twitter and want to participate you can learn some fun stuff about nutrition, wellness, health and fitness.  I have participated before and I really enjoyed the conversation and made some new Twitter friends!

Now onto the good stuff; the discount and giveaway :)

Below you can enter in the rafflecopter giveaway for a sample of ENERGYbits to try for yourself.  If you don’t win or don’t wanna wait to try them, you can also use the discount code “BLOG” at their checkout to score 10% off of your purchase.
