#FitBlogNYC Meet & Tweet Recap


Fitness Magazine #FitBlogNYCI never had the chance to announce this before I went but this past Thursday I was invited by Fitness Magazine to #FitBlogNYC along with a group of top fitness and food bloggers.  I can’t even convey how much fun I had but I will try very hard. Everything was amazing and there was swag…like So. Much. Swag. Fitness Magazine #FitBlogNYCThe event started at 9:30 in the morning at the Mercedes Club and I arrived a few minutes before and met Nicole from Fitful Focus and Lindsay from Lindsay Weighs In. After several minutes of standing around and chatting we were invited to go upstairs to grab some breakfast and socialize before the first session began. unnamed-27 unnamed-26

The breakfast spread was impressive, offering water, organic coffee, cold pressed juice, gluten free and vegan baked goods as well as fruit salad with cacao sauce. So yummy! After eating and socializing we took our seats so that we could start the first group of sessions.  The agenda for the day was pretty freakin’ awesome and I was excited to hear what everyone had to say! #FitBlogNYC

After a brief opening welcome from Fitness Magazing Editor-In-Cheif, Betty Wong, we heard from celebrity fitness trainer Holly Rilinger who spoke about the formula for fitness success and offered a lot of great advice.  She spoke about the importance of having a passion, incorporating fitness in your life and always pushing yourself to be better.#FitBlogNYC

#FitBlogNYCNext, we heard from Dr. Marci Goolsby from the Hospital of Special Surgery speak about how to stay healthy while working out hardcore and the right ways to train to prevent injuries.   She stressed that such things as appropriate progression, incorporating strength training and proper nutrition are all essential to injury prevention.  We also discussed more taboo subjects such as urinary incontinence during exercise.  I, ahem, may know a thing or two about that.  #FitBlogNYC

Moving on.  Next, we heard from THE Carla Hall! She started out on Top Chef and is now one of the co-hosts of the The Chew.  I have loved her since Top Chef and am an avid watch of The Chew so I was kinda freaking out a bit.  Not only did she have great advice to give about cooking and doing what you love, she is also totally hilarious and relatable.  She makes you feel like you’ve been friends forever.  My two favorite pieces of advice she gave were:

Our height difference is so drastic that the only appropriate way to take this photo was a spooning bear hug.  She is awesome and I was awestruck, definitely one of the highlights of my entire day! After meeting and canoodling with Carla, it was time for lunch and I have to say I was more than impressed by the menu. 

After chowing down on this delicious feast, it was time to newtork and check out all of the sponsored tables.  The sponsors included: Balance Bar, Eddie Bauer, Dermalogica, Hoka One One, Luna Bar, Oster, Pure Protein, Tonalin and Tria and they were all giving away some awesome stuff! Lindsay and I had some fun at the Tria booth, snapping a pic and giggling how we must be separated at birth.  We are more or less the same person.  Not only is she super sweet but she’s absolutely HILARIOUS and kept me giggling all day. ERMAHGERD, shes’s the best!

Following lunch and networking, we heard from a panel of experts about digital branding as a business.  Those on the panel included: Bianca Jade from MizzFIT, Anne Mauney from fANNEtastic food, and Laura Kasperzak (@laurasykora) from Two Fit Moms. I didn’t have my phone available to me during this session because it was at the charging station.  Yes, I said charging station.  Fitness Magazine thought of everything to make sure we stayed connected…#bloggerproblems.  Anyway, they each had a lot of great points with great advice, I just wish we had been able to ask questions! 

After the panel discussion ended, Hoka One One hosted a run in our brand spankin’ new shoes!#FitBlogNYC

 We ran alongside the West Side Highway, running with Nicole the whole way.  It really was quite beautiful and although it had been pouring rain throughout most of the day, the weather had cleared up just in time and it was perfect…maybe even a tad hot! #FitBlogNYC

This was my first ever run in NYC and I was in love…it was so awesome to be with other passionate runners and see some of the sites on such a gorgeous afternoon.  Not to mention Nicole and I killed it- we totally ran our butts off!#FitBlogNYC

Once the run was done, we went back to the Mercedes Club to charge our dying phones AND claim our much awaited swag bags.  We had heard that they were no joke but I wasn’t quite expecting all that we got.  It seriously weighed like 25 lbs and it was quite the adventure lugging it to dinner with Nicole & Lindsay and then on the train back to my car but it was WORTH IT! unnamed-44This picture doesn’t even really do it justice.  Not only did we get a TON of food and beauty samples and full size products but we also were gifted ANOTHER PAIR OF SHOES! Fitness Magazine was nice enough to give all of us a pair of Reebok Skyscapes which I have heard a ton of awesome things about!  Just take a look at the Hoka & Reeboks….they really are as awesome as they seem.unnamed-46 unnamed-45

There is SO many other cool and awesome things in the bag but I can’t possible name them all.  A few of the items that I am really excited about are the Vega samples, massage balls, sport mascara, dry shampoo, Sparkly Soul headband, Citrus Zinger water bottle and this fitness inspired jewelry from Fierce Forward and Erica Saraunnamed-49 unnamed-48They are both gorgeous bracelets and I can’t wait to add more to my collection from Fierce Forward so that I can “build my armor” :) Be on the look out for a giveaway featuring one of the Erica Sara bracelets ( I received two!) as well as some other fun swag- I can’t possibly use it all! 

Like I said at the beginning, it is hard to convey just how amazing this entire experience was.  Not only did I get to hear professionals, experts and celebrities speak, I was able to network with other bloggers IN REAL LIFE which really was the most valuable part of the experience for me.  I may have walked away with a big ol’ bag of swag but the memories and friendships that were created mean so much more to me. I can only hope to be invited back again next year!
