Global Running Day: 10 Ways to Celebrate

It’s the most wonderful time of the year.  No, I am not talking about the holidays BUT I am referring to a holiday that is globally celebrated by a group of crazy people known as runners.

Tomorrow might be Wednesday in your world but to us runners it’s known as Global Running Day and I’m here to share with you 10 ways you can celebrate!

Global Running Day: 10 Ways to Celebrate! [ Ragnar Relay, #RunChat, #RunChatHunt, National Running Day ideas]

1. Go for a Sunrise Run!

What better way to start the day than with an early run to capture the sunrise? Getting out of bed before dawn can be dreadful and dreary but it is oh so worth it once you see that sun coming over the horizon, I promise.  Need some tips on how to get your early AM runs done? Checkout my Motivation Tips for Early Morning Workouts post!

2. Sign Up for a Race!

What better way to celebrate Global Running Day than to sign up for a race! Maybe it’s a small local race (which is awesome) or maybe it’s that big race that you’ve been meaning to pull the trigger on…like oh, I don’t know, a RAGNAR RELAY! For those of you who haven’t experienced a Ragnar Relay, you have to.  200 miles split up between 12 people is totally manageable, I promise.  Plus, it’ll be fun! 😉

Oh and if you pledge to run today you can score $80 off a registration of ANY Ragnar! BONUS: If you take on the Captain role you get a free pair of Reeboks! WOOT!

3. Set A New Goal!

Registering for a race out of your reach financially or time wise? Set a new personal goal.  Maybe you want to shave time off your 5k or really start to incorporate strength training into your routine.  Write down your specific goal and a plan to make it happen.

4. Group Run

Speaking of running with friends, how about celebrating today with a group run?!  I can’t think of a better day to grab a friend and share the love of running by logging some miles together! :)

5. Create A Playlist

Another way to celebrate your love of running is to make a new playlist for the occasion.  I know I always feel even more motivated to get out the door when I have a new playlist waiting to be heard.  Might I suggest a Morning Motivation Playlist or throw it “way back” with an Energizing 90’s Playlist

6. Run Naked.

Okay, don’t LITERALLY run naked but on the flip side of running to music, you could totally run naked- no headphones, no GPS, no gadgets of any kind.  Reconnect with running by keeping it simple and become reacquainted with what it feels like when it’s just you and the road.

7. Splurge On Some Shoes

If ever the day there was an excuse to buy the pair of running shoes you’ve had your heart set on, it’s today.  Already have 3 pairs? That’s fine.  A running can never have too many running shoes! 😉

8. Go For A Sunset Run.

If you’re really not a morning person or are likely reading this after the sunrise, go for a sunset run instead!  They are equally as beautiful and invigorating…and an amazing way to end the day!

9. Share it on Social Media

Obviously if you run on Global Running Day you need to document it and post it to Instagram STAT! Haha, just kidding….kinda. But seriously, if you bring your phone on your sunrise or group run or sunrise run you should totally snap a pic and share it to social media.  Your running friends will give you virtual high fives and you might even inspire your non-running friend to pick up the habit.

1o. #RunChat Hunt

If you’re a runner and you’re on twitter then you probably follow #RunChat.  Well, they just announced yesterday that they will be kicking off Global Running Day with a #RUNCHATHUNT!!!!

If you have never participated in a #RunChatHunt before, you totally should.  It is incredibly great way to motivate you to get out the door and go run to hunt for the specific items (find the list on Twitter) then you get to tweet and interact with other runners about their run hunt finds! Super fun plus it last the entire month and you get prizes for participating!

So, tell me…how are you celebrating Global Running Day?
