Gluten-Free for Less at Walmart

GFWALMART

This past Saturday I had the opportunity to attend a Gluten-Free for Less Event at my local Walmart.  I know this sounds crazy but I was really excited to go since the stores around me rarely host fun events let alone one where gluten free goodies are served.

When I arrived at Walmart, the event was fairly easy to find as it was located right at the end of the aisle where some other gluten free products are also featured.

I was excited to see that they had a variety of gluten free products on display that I am already a huge fan of like Udi’s and Quaker available for taste testing. SCORE! I had just finished a 13 mile training run and I was starving!

Gluten Free Walmart for Less

The first cart I came across was set up to serve both Quaker Popped Chips and Udi’s Gluten Free Farmhouse White Bread which was presented as a toasted cheese sandwich- YUM!

GF Quaker Popped Chips

They even had little information sheets set out next to each of the foods that were being sampled with facts on gluten sensitivity and Celiac Disease.  I thought that was really cool and a nice touch for those who wanted to know more about the importance and availability of gluten free foods.

The other cart was giving out samples of both Udi’s Chicken Burritos (antibiotic free, by the way) and Udi’s Three Cheese and Uncured Pepperoni Pizzas!

They were both equally delicious but I really enjoyed the pizza.  I have mentioned before that I don’t often eat pizza since we don’t have a lot of gluten free available options outside of homemade so I was more than happy to try it out!

I even picked some up before I left so that I could share with the family which were located right in the freezer section next to the other gluten free frozen foods!

I actually bought them both….don’t judge, one was for my kids and I plan on eating one myself and sharing more about it in an upcoming blog post, so be sure to check back to learn more about it!

Overall, I was really impressed with the selection of gluten free products at Walmart.  It was nice to see that there are more gluten-free choices available in my area now and for much less than other stores that carry the same products!

To learn more about the gluten-free products Walmart carries you can visit their speciality gluten free page for information and recipes! Oh and before you go shopping be sure to grab this $1.00 off any Udi’s product coupon! :)

I'm so happy WalMart is getting more into the gluten-free game. It can be so expensive to go GF and knowing Wal Mart is working to make it more affordable is just great. I haven't been diagnosed with Celiac's, but my doctors have suspected I have an intolerance too it (even though I continue to eat it). Knowing now that I can find things to help stay within my budget is great!

Where I live, stores are pretty limited on the "specialty" foods. We have one (very small) natural foods store and it takes forever to get special orders in. Walmart is definitely the big place to shop here and it's really great to see them addressing this issue. They've even been adding to the vegetarian offerings. It makes this family really happy! :)
