Heart Healthy Gluten Free Oatmeal Recipes

Our theme today is “heart healthy” recipes and I had originally intended on posting a “Chocolate Dipped Raspberry Bites” recipe since both chocolate and raspberries are known to be top heart healthy foods.  

Then…a snowstorm happened.  Let me preface this by saying that I live in Central New York and we are not only accustomed to large amounts of snowfall but we are also pretty much immune to it.  Let’s just say, a forecasted foot of snow really doesn’t phase us much.

To get to the point, this week’s forecast didn’t really call for much snow- maybe 6-10 inches or snow over a day or two but on Wednesday night, the snow started coming down HARD and I had yet to run to the store.  

I figured I’d just head to the store on Thursday morning quick after my morning run but when I woke up, I saw this….

Yep.  3 feet of snow had fallen overnight and it was still coming down at a rate of 3 inches per hour.  Schools were canceled and digging out had to be done which meant mama didn’t make it to the store. 

So today, instead of the deliciously vegan chocolate dipped raspberries I had planned, I am going to be sharing with you some oatmeal recipes from the archives!

Why oatmeal? Because it’s loaded with omega-3 fatty acids and fiber which are known to help lower your LDL (bad) cholesterol.

Blueberry Oatmeal Breakfast Bake  (shown above) because what’s better for breakfast than baked oats drizzled in an antioxidant rich blueberry reduction?

Cherry Pie Recovery Oatsmaybe I spoke too soon, cherry pie oats for breakfast is actually pretty amazing. 


Oatmeal Cookie Protein Smoothie or if you’re in a hurry, you can enjoy your oatmeal on the go in this delicious oatmeal cookie smoothie! 

I also have a few granola recipes that fit the bill and though they are not oatmeal per se, they do contain oats and are both low in fat and sugar and high in fiber! 


Goji Almond Granola this granola mix is made with goji berries which are considered a super food since they contain all essential amino acids and are high in fiber! 


Chocolate Strawberry Granola– this granola may taste like a treat but since it’s made with cacao powder and sprinkled with cacao nibs, it’s rich in flavonoids that are healthy for the heart.
