Hill Pusher Playlist – Tunes To Power You Up Even The Biggest Of Hills.


There was a time not too long ago that I didn’t run with music at all.  The connection between nature, the road and myself was all I needed.  

Then, after discovering a decent pair of headphones that actually fit my baby ears, I tried running with some tunes during my longer runs and I realized how certain songs would pump me up, make me run faster, give me that little extra boost I needed that my mind alone just wasn’t capable of doing. 

While there are times that I still run without music, I have realized the benefits of running with music.  Music can serve as a distraction through tough moments, it can change your “I can’t” attitude into “yes, I CAN – let’s do this you badass”.  Those moments are now why I run with music during tough races (when allowed) – most notably my power playlist made a huge difference for me during last year’s Mountain Goat 10 Miler.  

The Mountain Goat is an incredibly popular race that takes place here in Syracuse in May which I have run the last two years and am registered to run again this May.  It’s an extremely challenging, VERY hilly race that will test limits for even the toughest of runners.  I love it but I also need a little something extra to push me up the hills in the moments when I’m feeling fatigued and defeated which is why I made this kick butt playlist full of rap and hip hop power tunes. 

I’ve been listening to it during my Mountain Goat training runs these past few weeks and I swear it makes me run faster 😉  I really love all kinds of music (I often run to Mumford and Sons) but there is just something about rap that changes my whole attitude when I run.  I feel stronger, powerful and like I can take on anything.

These are some of my favorites – not that I should have to warn you (since it is rap) but there is explicit language so it’s definitely not meant for sensitive ears 😉
