Hydration on the Run

Hydration on the Run

Last weekend I set out for the Sport Skirt #Skirt13er (13.1 miles) with plenty of Pocketfuel to keep me going and a water bottle full of NUUN to keep my hydrated.

The temps were a perfect 60 something degrees with a light breeze when I started and all was going pretty well.  I was enjoying the views, breathing in the fresh air and taking sips of my NUUN as needed.

Then, it got hot.  Like, all the sudden.  I started to become dehydrated, I drank some more then some more and by mile 8, I was out of water. The last 5 miles were a little bit torturous, I even contemplated stopping at some random house along my isolated country route to ask for some water but then thought better of it.

By the time I (finally) arrived home, I vowed to figure out a hydration solution- I refused to be stuck in the middle of the country dying of thirst ever again. I will be marathon training, after all and 13.1 miles is only the beginning of even longer long runs.

Right now I am currently using an Orange Mud Handheld Bottle Holder.  It has been fine for shorter runs (like less than 8 or 10 miles) but isn’t going to cut it for anything longer than that.

So, I began to research my options.  Right now I am stuck between a hydration belt and a hydration vest.

The hydration belt that I am looking into is the Nathan Trail Mix Hydration Belt ..not sure if that will cut it or if I really want to wear a belt.

I think I might prefer a vest instead…

I have my eye on the Camelbak Marathoner Hydration Vest it holds 2 Liters for runs 2 hours or more and has mesh pockets though it is significantly more expensive.

I don’t really know anything about either and not sure what I might prefer but I’d love to hear recommendations and opinions!
