Jimmy Fund Walk: Help Conquer Cancer One Step At A Time
Last month I announced that I will be participating in the Jimmy Fund Walk taking place on September 27th. Since the even takes place in Boston, I cannot physically walk it but I have committed to fundraising and participating as a virtual walker.
I participated in an Ambassador Activation on behalf of Influence Central for the Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk. I received a promotional item to thank me for my participation.
For those of you who haven’t heard of Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk, it’s presented by Hyundai and benefits the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute’s mission to conquer cancer. I have been give the opportunity to participate this year and have chosen to do so as both Boston and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute’s commitment to finding a cure is a cause I hold dear.
In my previous post when I announced my registration as a virtual walker, I briefly explained my mother’s stay at the Brigham Women’s Hospital (attached to Dana-Farber) where she was treated for a non-cancerous brain tumor. My experience there along with a strong history of cancer in my family lead me to my decision to participate in the Jimmy Fund Walk. Money that is raised goes to research to fight cancer and toward patient care and treatments.
Over the course of the last month, I have been making efforts to fundraise the old fashioned way and also by using the Jimmy Fund Mobile App!
What I love about the app is that everything you need to fundraised is neatly organized in one place plus all the posts you need to share to request gifts on social media are prewritten for you and not just for Facebook. There is also a post to Twitter, a pre-written email and text message as well as the ability to post to Linkedin.
I don’t know about you, but honestly the hardest part of fundraising or asking for a donation is coming up with the time to do it and the creativity/brain power to write it. The Jimmy Fund Mobile App makes it easy since it eliminates the guess work. I’ve been able to tweet and post to Facebook requesting gifts with literally the click of a button and it has taken no time at all.
Another way I kickstarted my fundraising was by donating to myself- it shows that I am invested to the cause and really care about it which mean people are more likely to donate as well!
I’ve also enlisted the help of my kiddos. It is an opportunity to teach them what it means to give and they also enjoy being involved.
If you would like to register either to walk on September 27th or as a virtual walker, you can use the code BLOG for $5.00 the Jimmy Fund Walk registration cost.
Those who do participate in the walk on September 27th have four routes to choose from:
- Hopkinton 26.2-mile
- Wellesley 13.1-mile
- Boston College 5-mile
- Dana-Farber 3-mile
All routes finish at the Copley Square finish area in Boston where walkers will enjoy live music and food!
Signing up is simply and fundraising is made easy with help of the Jimmy Fund Mobile App and support from the Walk staff. Every little bit helps and by registering you can “make every step count”.
