Let’s Get Happify…Becoming a Happier Mom!

Lately I had been feeling kinda blah. Don’t get me wrong, I am blessed and have a great life with a beautiful family but sometimes being stuck in the house with two small children all day can wear me down.  They’re adorable, smart, active little girls who most of the time make me smile but can drive me bananas at the same time.

I don’t think that I am alone in those feelings and I am sure that most parents and stay at home moms can relate….it’s not always rainbows and unicorns and there are moments where you find yourself on the edge of insanity.  So when I was offered the chance to try out and review a new app called Happify through I’m Fit Possible, I thought it could be just what I needed.

What is Happify?

Happify is a scientifically constructed application and website that features activities and games which are designed to build skills for lasting happiness.  The way it works is that Happify personalizes these activities for you so that they are based on your specific goals.  You complete a survey every two weeks so that these results are measurable and you can see the effectiveness of your activities.

After completing an initial survey, Happify will suggest tracks that you can pick to boost your happiness and you are encouraged to complete them in a certain time frame.  Some of the tracks that they offer include; Building Self Confidence, Coping Better with Stress, Becoming More Socially Connected, Finding Motivation, Strengthening Your Friendships and Enjoy Parenting More.  All of the activities and games for each track fall under five main categories: Thank, Savor, Aspire, Empathize and Give.

There are a variety of other tracks as well but after I completed my survey, one of the tracks that was suggested to me was to Enjoy Parenting More.  This didn’t really surprise me but did open my eyes a bit to the fact that I needed to make more effort to enjoy parenting my children….maybe I was a little more stressed out than I thought.

My Results:

I have been using Happify for the past month and I have to say that my track activities really did help me to enjoy every day with my children more.  Some of tasks that I was asked to complete included; sharing the positive impact I have on my children, savoring the small stuff, and playing games to help uplift my mood.  After using the app for the last month I took another survey to measure my progress and guess what? My happiness score increased by over 30 points!!! Not only could I feel my happiness increasing but there was a number to prove it and I’m a lover of statistics so this really made me happy!

Instead of yelling when I become frustrated from repeating myself, I take a deep breath and try to understand things from the view of my children.  Instead of directing them, I explain and show.  Happify has helped me to build the skills I need to be a better, happier parent!

There is also this awesome infographic that Happify put together on moms and happiness that I found really interesting….it shows what really makes moms happy and why that is important. If you click on the photo it will bring you to the link with the full infographic.
