Nuts & Berries High Protein Breakfast Smoothie {Dairy Free}


This Nuts and Berries Breakfast Smoothie is dairy free and packed with protein making it the perfect way to start your day!

It might be the start of August and the very first Meatless Monday of the month but today I am going to take you way back to ten plus years ago and when my interest in the culinary arts all began. 

By culinary arts I mean using my role as a restaurant hostess to do some quality assurance on the bartender’s mixed drinks.  

I won’t give my exact age because it would date me and/or be illegal but in my past past past life I was a hostess at a small local restaurant.  I took it upon myself during that time to make it my duty to taste test some of the “mix ups” that the bartender on shift would shake up.  

By far, one of my favorites cocktails was a “Nuts and Berries” which is a light, fruity drink made up of Chambord (a raspberry liqueur), Frangelico (hazelnut liqueur) and heavy cream.  It sounds like a rookie drink, I know but back in the day I thought it was the best thing since sliced bread. 

Now, many moons later, that flavor combo is still one of my favs.  No, not the liqueur but the combos of berries, nuts and milk.  In fact, my typical smoothie is made up of protein powder, blueberries, almond butter and almond milk but in an effort to make it healthier and more “nuts and berries” like I swapped out the blueberries for a mix of raspberries and blackberries along with some dairy free almond milk!

Nuts & Berries Breakfast Smoothie {Dairy Free}


RECIPE 

Ingredients: 

  • 1 1/4 cups unsweetened vanilla almond milk (or non-dairy milk of choice)
  • 1.5 cup frozen mixed blackberries & raspberries
  • 1/3 cup raw almond butter
  • 1 scoop PlantFusion LEAN vanilla protein powder
  • fresh blackberries & slivered almonds to garnish, if desired

 

Directions:

  1. Pour milk into a blender then add berries, almond butter, then protein powder. 
  2. Blend until smooth.  
  3. Consistency will be thick, add milk to think out, if desired. 
  4. Top with extra berries and slivered almond.
