Race Registration Hesitation + A Very Inspiring Blogger Award

Harborfest 10k Run
Harborfest is an annual festival that takes place in my hometown the last weekend of July and included in the many festivities is the Harborfest Run.  Since it’s a local race, I figured I would participate but I have really been dragging my feet about signing up.

Race Registration Hesitation
After procrastinating for the last month and hemming and hawing between registering for the 5k or the 10k I finally decided to just bite the bullet, go for it and register for the 10k.  It’s not like I’m unaccustomed to that mileage at this point in my training but I just was having serious apprehension about this race in particular for some reason.  Maybe it’s because they call the 10k race course “undulating”- meaning wave like which translates to hills.  This also shouldn’t concern me because almost all of my training runs involve multiple gigantic hills.

I’m having a case of the “run dumbs” as my fellow blogger friend Tiffany from Running Hutch would call them! I just need to talk myself out of all the doubt and I’ll be fine, I hope.  I’ll be sure to post a race recap to update on how it goes!

In other news, I was recently nominated for A Very Inspiring Blogger Award by two fellow bloggers; Michelle at Onemoremile and Diana at hiitmom.net– thanks ladies, I’m so honored!Very Inspiring Blogger Award

Here are the guidelines.
  • Thank and link to the person who nominated you.
  • List the rules and display the award.
  • Share seven facts about yourself.
  • Nominate 15 other blogs you enjoy, then comment on their posts to let them know that you have nominated them.

Seven random facts about me:

  1. I drink my coffee black and on occasion enjoy a cappuccino.
  2. I hate chewing gum and haven’t had a piece in probably 10 years.  I also generally hate the taste of peppermint.
  3. I despise the taste of raw bananas and tomatoes but enjoy them when baked or cooked.
  4. I can crochet and often spend cold winter days making blankets and coffee cozies.
  5. I am terrible at math, including simple addition and subtraction.  I even mistakenly subtracted a tip from a restaurant bill once when I meant to add it- leaving a negative amount (thank goodness my friend double checked my math and corrected my mistake before we left).
  6. I studied criminology in college and wanted to be a profiler for the FBI and work with serial killers.  I think serial killers and sexually deviant behavior in general is extremely fascinating.
  7. I belong to a local historical society and I am the youngest member by at least 40 years- no joke! I was able to pay for my membership by $5.00 per year or $25 for lifetime….I chose lifetime and I think I got a pretty good deal.  Not so sure about the other 80-something-year-old members, they are a feisty bunch though!

You're welcome! Love your blog :)

Yes, now I just have to show up and act like it's just a normal run! I am going to familiarize myself with the course tonight so hopefully that will help a bit!

And, uh calculus was WAY over my head! I was surprising good at statistics though? Go figure!

      Thank you!

I was great at stats, too. I guess the one I really stuck at was foreign language!

I am doing a 10K tonight (I am an Esprit de She Ambassador) and I did 33 miles in an ultra on Saturday. I am looking at this one as a "fun" run. Hope that is true ;)

Let me tell you... I hate having to be in charge of the work lunch order and dealing with getting change from the delivery guy and having it be the right amount to divvy out. I make the receptionist do that. And tipping? My husband added in change to make the total an even number. Me? I panic and hope I am not tipping tooo low so I pick a number and add a few more bucks. I am reassured that I am actually a very good tipper. LOL
Have fun at your race! It sounds like a great festival.
Thanks for the nomination!

Haha, Mary- you sound just like me! I always over tip just to make sure I'm leaving enough because it would hurt my brain too much to do the actual math!!!

Thanks so much for the nomination! I will definitely play along.
I love that you are in a historical society with a bunch of older people. I often go in crib tournaments and it's the same thing, I significantly bring down the average age.

    Reply July 24, 2014

You're welcome! I love reading your blog :) That's too funny about going to crib tournaments....the older population is such a fun crew to hang out with, aren't they?

Reply July 24, 2014

Thanks for the nomination!!! I am the exact way with tomatoes, I hate them raw but will eat them cooked...go figure lol!
Good luck on the race :)

    Reply July 24, 2014

You're welcome! That's too funny that you don't like raw tomatoes either :P

Thank you, hoping the weather holds out so it stays cool/dry!

Thank you for the nomination! I wasn't bad at any subject in school until I got to college. Calculus has completely ruined math for me and now I hate it! Good luck at your 10k!

    Reply July 24, 2014

Welcome! Haha, I think calculus ruins math for most people and why is it necessary to learn? Hurts my brain! Thank you, hoping for good cool and dry weather for the run :)

Reply July 24, 2014

I don't think it would be possible for me to be worse at math than I am. I read numbers out of order and I'm a graphic designer so whenever I'm making something that has phone numbers or addresses in it, I have to have someone else look at it to make sure I wrote them in the right order.

No wonder I got like every math problem I ever did in school. :)

So cool to learn more about you! I think serial killers are fascinating too. I just can't wrap my brain around that kind of thing.

I am the same way! If I even look at a number my brain automatically shuts down and I am know for transposing them all the time!

Most people probably would think I'm strange for being interested in serial killers but I just love behavioral studies and trying to figure out why people do crazy things!

Don't even get me started on how terrible I am at math. I still use a calculator for everything!!

Are we related? Haha...no seriously...I'm HORRIBLE at math!! I have to count on my fingers still for simple addition. And I studied the same thing in college! For some reason I find weirdos very fascinating- I'd love to learn more about what makes them tick, but I never went (read: couldn't afford) grad school to the level I needed to become a forensic psychologist! You'll do great on your 10k- I totally know you'll be awesome!! I'll have my award post up in a few days- I just need to think of bloggers to nominate now :-)

Ohmygosh! WE MUST be related! How funny is it that we both studied the same thing in college? I wanted to go onto grad school for forensic psych so bad and came really close (I got into a school) but life circumstances changed and I decided to take a job while I was still in school and never went. Still makes me sad to this day but I am sure it all happened for a reason. My best friend is getting her forensic psych degree in Chicago though so I just live vicariously through her :)

I'm hoping I survive the 10k at this point- I did a test run last night and it was HILLY! Now I just need to hydrate and rest today to make sure I can really give it my all tomorrow!

I hate math too, which always makes me laugh since I got my MBA and had to take WAY too many classes with numbers. I always had to work 3x as hard in those classes and hated every minute of it!! Especially since I will never use 1/2 of the things I was taught in those classes!

I wanted to be a profiler too, but then I fell in love with Political Science and changed my major my sophomore year! I am fascinated by serial killers and love watching/reading about them!

I swear that most of the math we are forced to learn is absolutely useless! I have maybe only used 1/8 of what I learned in real life applications! Political Science is fascinating too, I did work study in the PS Dept at college and always loved the conversations I had with the professors!

Good for you for running the race! It's always a challenge to decide to do it or not, but I find that once I do it, I'm SO darn happy that I did!

    Reply July 28, 2014

You're welcome! Thank you- it was a tough and extremely challenging course but I gave it my all and am happy I chose to run it! :)

Thanks for the nomination Annmarie! And I'm a Math major so (hopefully) I'm not bad at math haha
Literature and Biology were neck and neck for the place of worse subjects when I was in high school though.
