#ShareSomethingInspiring Week 1 Recap & Running Update

In an effort to spread kindness and inspiration, Fit Approach has teamed up with Lorna Jane Active for a #ShareSomethingInspiring Twitter Challenge from the 22nd of May to the 21st of June. Since I can’t pass up a fun challenge, especially when it comes to inspiring others, I decided to play along with my Sweat Pink Sisters. Each week I will do a quick recap on the blog of the inspiring things I’ve tweeted!

May 22: #sharesomethinginspiring that motivates you!

I picked this song lyric by the Eagles to share because it has always been something that has motivated me throughout my life. I remember hearing the song when I was in my youth and it left an impression on me. The idea that we are responsible for our own destiny and we are the ones that have the ability to change it really resonates with me. WE have the key to make life what we want it, don’t let anyone else hold you back.

May 23: #sharesomethinginspiring to cheer up someone who needs it!

If we are always searching for happiness, waiting for the next big thing to be what makes up whole and happy, we will never find it. Living in the happiness of our present existence is what will pave the way for a satisfying and blissful life. It is something that is easier said than done but I think we all need to be reminded of this sometimes.

May 24: #sharesomethinginspiring about your best friend/tag him or her!

I just had to do a shout out to my new insta-friend, Redd, I wrote an entire post about how she has inspired me to run a half marathon and how she keeps me on track with all of my goals. It is so nice to have a supportive person to share your dreams and goals with!

May 25: #sharesomethinginspiring that makes you smile!

Where I live, we are blessed with one of the most gorgeous sunsets I have ever seen. I have traveled all over the US and I still can’t say that I have seen a more beautiful sunset that the ones we get to experience here. The sky turns all shades of pink and orange and blazes the horizon with this beautiful fire for us to enjoy. There are probably better pictures of the sunset on the Lake somewhere but this is one I snapped in the moment and am still amazed by it’s beauty.

Running Update:

I have been running my butt off lately thanks to the warmer weather and even increased my mileage to just over 8 miles….that is a HUGE accomplishment for me.! My schedule is usually to run 3 days a week while still continuing  to incorporate strength training and conditioning workouts.  I have found this to work well for me because I don’t think I could handle running daily and I still want to spend time with my first loves (kettlebells, sandbag, equalizers, etc).  I think continuing with these strength/conditioning workouts really improves my endurance too! I have also signed up for two more races! One is a 5k coming up next weekend and the other is the Ragnar in the Adirondacks which I am SUPER excited about!

Miles for Meals- 5k

This race takes place along the Onondaga Lake Parkway on May 31st and benefits the Food Bank of Central New York which helps to fight hunger in an 11 county service area.  I think it is a great cause and much needed where we live.  Unfortunately, there are too many people who are under served in our community and funds for healthy, nourishing food can be limited.

Ranar Relay- Adirondacks

I am going to do an entirely separate post about this in the near future but I just wanted to announce that I signed up because I am SO excited! I have officially joined a van with 5 others but we are still looking to add team members to the 2nd van! I think this race is going to be ridiculously fun and memorable not to mention an absolutely breathtaking way to explore the Adirondacks during the changing of the foliage.

Are you participating in the #sharesomethinginspiring challenge? What races have you signed up for recently? Does anyone want to join our team for the Ragnar???
